SUMMARY:Professional tour for planners and environmentalists to Northern Greece
DESCRIPTION:Mediterranean architecture and sustainability in Thessaloniki and Trikala\n  \nIn the past\, Thessaloniki was called the “Jerusalem of the Balkans” but its current mayor\, repeats and declares in any media\nin the country that he wants to turn the city into the “new Tel Aviv” within 3 years. \nBetween Jerusalem and the new Tel Aviv of the Balkans\, between Ottoman\, Byzantine and Jewish history\nthe port city of Thessaloniki offers a multitude of smells\, tastes\, unique architecture and a unique model of\nsustainability. \nOur tour will be carried out in cooperation with the municipalities of Thessaloniki and Trikala\, will focus on the urban development of the city\nand the application of original models of Mediterranean sustainability\, alongside its accelerated urban renewal process.\nThe tour will explore the way the city deals with issues of development versus preserving natural and environmental values in the urban sorounding.\nand also with social and multicultural characteristics. \nThe tour will focus on dealing with waste management and the cultivation of public space while maintaining mediteranean characteristics\nof vegetation and gardening. \nGreen construction\, preservation of buildings and of course the development of a local (circular) economy. \nIn Trikala\, the capital of the Thessaly region\, a two and a half hour drive from Thessaloniki\, we will meet the other Greece. This is mountainous\, rural Greece\, ‘with a smart city where leading global companies such as Cisco and IBM implement their technologies. Among hem\, we will meet smart lighting systems\, advanced garbage disposal management\, extensive use of renewable energy technologies and of course a balanced combination of development and wild nature\nscreaming from all sides of the city. \nThe tour is organized by Dr. Asher Vaturi\, ECOPLAN company.\nDr. Vaturi\, consultant and environmental planner\, member of the Israel Greece Chamber of Commerce\, with over a decade of experience in organizing professional tours abroad in the fields of planning and sustainability. \nCosts and registration\nThe cost of the tour\, 2300 NIS + VAT\, includes meals\, trainings and a private bus. \nOrganizations and companies represented by more than two participants will receive a 10% discount.
