Mediterranean architecture and sustainability in Thessaloniki and Trikala

In the past, Thessaloniki was called the “Jerusalem of the Balkans” but its current mayor, repeats and declares in any media
in the country that he wants to turn the city into the “new Tel Aviv” within 3 years.

Between Jerusalem and the new Tel Aviv of the Balkans, between Ottoman, Byzantine and Jewish history
the port city of Thessaloniki offers a multitude of smells, tastes, unique architecture and a unique model of
sustainability.

Our tour will be carried out in cooperation with the municipalities of Thessaloniki and Trikala, will focus on the urban development of the city
and the application of original models of Mediterranean sustainability, alongside its accelerated urban renewal process.
The tour will explore the way the city deals with issues of development versus preserving natural and environmental values in the urban sorounding.
and also with social and multicultural characteristics.

The tour will focus on dealing with waste management and the cultivation of public space while maintaining mediteranean characteristics
of vegetation and gardening.

Green construction, preservation of buildings and of course the development of a local (circular) economy.

In Trikala, the capital of the Thessaly region, a two and a half hour drive from Thessaloniki, we will meet the other Greece. This is mountainous, rural Greece, ‘with a smart city where leading global companies such as Cisco and IBM implement their technologies. Among hem, we will meet smart lighting systems, advanced garbage disposal management, extensive use of renewable energy technologies and of course a balanced combination of development and wild nature
screaming from all sides of the city.

The tour is organized by Dr. Asher Vaturi, ECOPLAN company.
Dr. Vaturi, consultant and environmental planner, member of the Israel Greece Chamber of Commerce, with over a decade of experience in organizing professional tours abroad in the fields of planning and sustainability.

Costs and registration
The cost of the tour, 2300 NIS + VAT, includes meals, trainings and a private bus.
